This page compares four named EINSTAR records, not the complete SHINING 3D range. Original EINSTAR uses a connected computer. EINSTAR 2 and Rockit can use EXStar Hub on a computer or EXStar Mobile on a supported Android phone or tablet. VEGA captures on the scanner itself. A phone route and a scanner with onboard computing are different buying choices.

The November 6 review updates software and capture-host guidance. Price cards retain their historical package observations and expired review windows; stock and delivery remain unconfirmed. EXModel Personal is a separately named option, not an assumed base-package inclusion. Request a separate software license term and delivered quote alongside the base scanner price. We have not run controlled hands-on tests.

The former original-model US shop URL now redirects to EINSTAR 2. Use the original EINSTAR download center for legacy documentation; the redirected shop page is not evidence for the original model's current price or specifications. Which EINSTAR model belongs on a shortlist?

Entry scanning and general capture

Treat original EINSTAR as a separate legacy-generation comparison. Its download center still describes 160-1400 mm depth of field, up to 14 fps and a 0.1-3 mm point-distance range. These are not accuracy or object-size guarantees. Check the legacy EXStar installer, USB connection and computer requirements before considering a remaining-stock or used unit; do not substitute EINSTAR 2 requirements or a redirected store price.

Mixed small and medium parts

EINSTAR 2 and Rockit add blue-laser modes to infrared capture. EINSTAR 2 uses 17 parallel laser lines. Rockit adds a 19 + 19 crossed-line mode for wider laser coverage and a 7-line parallel mode for detail. Both deserve a trial when your work mixes detailed mechanical parts with broader surfaces. Ask which mode keeps your smallest feature and whether markers or surface treatment are needed.

All-in-one field capture

VEGA is the EINSTAR candidate when scanning without a laptop is the deciding feature. Test battery, storage, screen visibility, project recovery, alignment and export in your real field sequence. The EINSTAR VEGA guide has a demo checklist.

EINSTAR publishes different specifications for the four models and does not state an accuracy figure on the reviewed pages. Compare them using the same part and pass criteria.

Software and computer requirements

Original EINSTAR uses EXStar on a connected computer. EINSTAR 2 and Rockit now have two documented routes: EXStar Hub on desktop and EXStar Mobile on a supported Android phone or tablet. Their scanner bodies do not become standalone computers. VEGA has onboard capture and processing, while its final task may still need StarVision or another desktop application.

The current EXStar Hub support record lists Windows 2.0.0-45 and Mac 2.0.0-17, with a November 3 modification date. Its computer table differs from older retail-page laptop guidance. Keep the application and requirement tier beside your comparison rather than mixing those tables. Minimums are not a performance result. For VEGA, the StarVision support page lists version 1.3.6.6 and was modified July 2, 2025; it is not proof of the latest installed version. Its RAM wording differs from the product page's 32 GB guidance, so we do not invent a universal 64 GB requirement.

Opening an export is not enough. Run your normal next step in CAD, inspection, printing or visualization software, and check units, scale, normals, holes and mesh density. If the job needs parametric CAD, price the reconstruction separately. EINSTAR sells EINSTAR 2 and Rockit bundles with EXModel software, so compare the bundle you would actually buy.

Android capture with EXStar Mobile

The EXStar Mobile download page lists version 1.0.0-55 for EINSTAR 2 and Rockit. At the November 6 check, Android downloads were provided while the Apple App Store cell still said coming soon. Published iPhone or iPad requirements do not prove that the Apple app is available.

The manufacturer's October 29 release explanation documents laser and IR alignment options, mobile mesh generation and local OBJ, PLY and STL export. Projects can move to EXStar Hub for further work. Test your selected mode, firmware, phone memory and final file; a 3DGS visualization is not interchangeable with a mesh or editable CAD.

Hub 2.0 also adds software-specific conditions. Real-Time AI Isolation is currently a Windows feature requiring an RTX 3060 or higher GPU in the supported IR workflow; Mac support for that feature remains in development. Check AI Isolation support separately from general Mac capture support.

Prices and availability

The four US product pages were checked on October 14, 2026: original EINSTAR USD 759, EINSTAR 2 base USD 1,249, VEGA base listing USD 1,999 and Rockit base USD 1,899. The earlier VEGA and Rockit sale prices are historical. EINSTAR 2 and Rockit name EXModel Personal as a separate option; ask which reconstruction license is included before treating a base price as a software quote. For VEGA, confirm regular or limited edition on the delivered quote. Store text says taxes are excluded and advertises free shipping; obtain destination-specific eligibility, stock, tax, delivery and support terms before comparing complete costs.

The device price is only part of the cost of owning an EINSTAR. Add workstation upgrades, targets, scanning spray, accessories, training, software and operator time.

Support in your country

The VEGA US page currently advertises a one-year warranty. Do not transfer that term to another model, a used original EINSTAR or a different seller. Confirm the named selling entity, included term, return address, repair route and costs on your written quote. Regional stores can carry different packages and stock.

Who makes EINSTAR scanners?

EINSTAR materials describe the products as powered by SHINING 3D, a Chinese 3D scanning company that also sells the EinScan and FreeScan lines. Confirm the regional selling entity and support route on your order.

Which EINSTAR scanner is wireless?

EINSTAR 2 and Rockit support desktop capture and a separate supported-Android route through EXStar Mobile. A phone must meet its app and hardware requirements; Apple release availability remains pending at this check. VEGA captures on the scanner itself. Choose between carrying a computer, carrying a compatible phone and capturing on the scanner, then verify the finishing steps.

Are EINSTAR scanners good for reverse engineering?

Several models justify a demo for reverse engineering, but the useful result depends on the part and on the CAD reconstruction path. Ask the seller to finish your representative deliverable, and price any reverse-engineering software separately.
