Verdict
Consider Raptor if you can provide a workstation and compare capture modes on a representative part. Do not buy from the headline accuracy alone. Ask the seller to return an unedited scan, a processed mesh and a measured feature in the receiving application.
For a broad mixed-object workflow, compare Otter. For an untethered workflow, compare VEGA. These are alternative demonstrations, not models we have established as equivalent.

Raptor belongs on a demonstration list when a mechanical part has small features that must survive scanning and mesh processing. The decision is not simply whether the scanner can capture the outside shape. A useful result must preserve the hole, edge or recess that matters in the final job.
This is a source-based buying guide, not a hands-on test. We have not measured a Raptor unit. Our recommendation is to request the tests below, not to assume a published specification guarantees your result.

The technical record comes from the Creality Raptor manual , reviewed September 20. The later price check does not revalidate every specification. The official US store listed QUICKSURFACE Lite for one year at USD 540 as an optional item on September 30. Do not treat reconstruction software as included unless the quote says so.
A demo that answers the purchase question
Bring one part with a measurable external span and one critical hole or recess. Record its reference dimensions, the permitted surface preparation and the acceptable error before scanning.

Set the threshold for your job, not for a marketing demonstration. A part used only as a visual reference may tolerate errors that a mating component cannot. Use the accuracy calculator to compare your readings; it does not certify the scanner.
Mesh is not editable CAD
A successful scan is an intermediate result. If the deliverable is STEP or an editable feature model, include reconstruction time, software and inspection of the rebuilt features in the quote. Automatic conversion of a mesh into a solid is not the same as reconstructing a usable design.
Follow the scan-to-CAD workflow and test a delivered file before paying for a complete system. Our downloadable STL exercise checks file geometry and scale, not Raptor performance.
Decide with the full cost
Use the selector to compare two or three candidates and enter your own quotes. Separate the scanner, accessories, annual software, training, service, shipping and tax. Add operator time if it matters to your workload. An unknown amount is not zero.
For occasional work, request a scanning-service quote for the same deliverable. If neither seller can demonstrate the critical feature, postponing the purchase is a valid outcome.
Questions before ordering
Does the USD 879 price buy the whole CAD workflow?
Not necessarily. It was the standalone US scanner listing on the check date. Ask for a written list of included licenses and the exact final file. Software and preparation can change the system cost.
Does 0.02 mm mean every point of my part is within 0.02 mm?
No such conclusion follows from a headline claim. Ask for its definition and test conditions, then check dimensions and repeatability on your own part. Long spans, recesses and processing need their own acceptance checks.
Can a glossy part be scanned without preparation?
Do not assume it. Agree what preparation is permitted and test both the difficult surface and the final feature. See the dark and reflective surfaces guide.
