Verdict
Investigate S1 when you can use markers for detailed blue-laser capture, or when geometry/texture tracking in infrared suits the object. Ask for a raw capture and a processed mesh of the same recess, edge or mounting feature. Compare them before accepting a smooth, closed result.
Choose the host before agreeing the package. The base wired instructions use a computer. The current mobile guide also names S1 with a compatible optional Scan Bridge and describes phone capture, processing and sharing. A separate screen-mirroring function still depends on a computer. Ask the seller to identify where capture and processing run in the quoted workflow.
For editable CAD, ask the seller to quote reconstruction and a final-file test in your chosen CAD software. The documented scanner exports do not establish a native CAD feature history. Our scan-to-CAD guide separates a mesh reference, an imported solid and an editable native parameter.

Sermoon S1 is a candidate when one handheld workflow must handle both a recessed mechanical feature and a larger object. Its single blue line, seven parallel lines, 34 crossed lines and two infrared ranges give you several capture paths to test. The purchasing question is which path preserves your actual feature and finishes the required file on the computer or phone you intend to use.
Compare S1 capture modes, computer or optional phone setup, surface preparation and export options. This guide uses Creality's product page, Quick Start Guide V1.1 and desktop/mobile instructions; the source dates appear beside the relevant details. Take the questions below to a demonstration of your quoted package.

Five modes: keep their distances and tracking separate
The official S1 specification and Quick Start Guide V1.1 (PDF), PDF page 9, provide these manufacturer statements. Working distance means the distance between scanner and surface. Minimum object size and point spacing do not prove that a hole or edge is captured.

| Capture mode | Published working distance | Published point spacing | Tracking and practical demo question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single blue line | 200-600 mm | 0.05-2 mm | Markers/global markers; can the cameras see the actual recessed wall from enough angles? |
| Seven parallel blue lines | 150-400 mm | 0.05-2 mm | Markers/global markers; does the small edge survive fusion and mesh cleanup? |
| 34 crossed blue lines | 200-600 mm | 0.05-2 mm | Markers/global markers; can the wider capture retain the critical feature on the same part? |
| Close-range infrared | 170-500 mm | 0.1-2 mm | Marker, geometry or texture tracking; is there enough distinctive information to track the object? |
| Long-range infrared | 200-1200 mm | 0.1-2 mm | Marker, geometry or texture tracking; check tracking and scale over the longest intended span |
The guide lists a 5 x 5 x 5 mm minimum object for the blue modes and 150 x 150 x 150 mm for infrared. These are manufacturer object-envelope statements, not smallest-feature guarantees. Its listed frame speeds also differ: up to 90 fps for single/parallel blue, 70 fps for crossed blue and 30 fps for infrared. They do not include your preparation, retry, fusion, cleanup or export time.
The S1 software guide's single-line advice recommends a hole diameter greater than 3 mm and capture from different angles. The guide gives no depth-to-diameter limit. Test your actual depth, finish and viewing access, then inspect the unfilled bore bottom.
Can S1 scan on a phone without a laptop?
The current CrealityScan mobile guide explicitly lists Sermoon S1 as supported with an accessory. Sections 2.2-2.5 describe connection through a Wi-Fi Scan Bridge, starting a scan, fusion, meshing and sharing files. This documents a direct mobile path; it is not just a statement that a phone can display a PC screen.
| Path to quote | Where capture and processing run | What the full-job test must settle |
|---|---|---|
| Wired desktop | Creality Scan on the named Windows/macOS computer; USB data and external power in the quick guide | Actual OS, GPU/RAM, ports, power arrangement and largest intended reconstruction |
| Direct mobile | CrealityScan app on a compatible phone, with a model-compatible optional Scan Bridge | Phone model, bridge version, app/firmware, available memory, processing limits and final file sharing |
| Computer screen mirroring | Computer runs the scan; phone displays the computer view | Presence of the computer and network arrangement; a mirrored preview is not proof of phone processing |
Section 3.4 of that same mobile guide describes computer mirroring separately. Ask the seller to start a new project, finish processing and share the final file on the quoted host. A video that ends at live preview leaves the delivery path unresolved.
For the S1/Raptor column, the mobile guide recommends Android 10 or later with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or later and 12 GB RAM, or iOS 15 or later with A16 or later and 8 GB RAM. Its separate named-phone examples and minimum examples have their own scope. An OS version alone is not a sufficient phone specification, and these recommendations are not processing times measured by us.
The Android download panel we observed displayed version 3.1.0, while the official mobile release page contains 3.1.1 notes. We have not established the installed build or its distribution to your phone. Request the app and firmware version shown during the actual capture rather than assuming the newest release-note entry is the offered installation.
Which file should the seller return?
The S1 desktop instructions, Export model , distinguish the following outputs. Request the original project as well when you need to revisit processing choices.
| Required result | Documented desktop export | Final-file check |
|---|---|---|
| Fused point cloud | ASC or PLY | Import the intended point data into your own application; check units and scale |
| Triangular mesh | STL, OBJ or PLY | Check the critical feature before repair; open the file at the intended scale |
| Mesh with texture images | OBJ with attached texture | Transfer the accompanying files and confirm the texture loads in your own application |
| Editable mechanical CAD | A separate reconstruction and final CAD editing task | Require the actual direct-edit or native-parameter change, not only a successful mesh import |
The mobile guide lists PLY, STL, OBJ and ASC in its sharing instructions. Confirm the selected data type, texture packaging and installed build. Do not infer that every listed extension carries the same information. A scan project is also different from an exported mesh, even if both can be opened in the scanner software.
Practice a scale and handoff check, or a file-package check for points, mesh faces and companion assets. These are practice files, not scans from an S1. Try them in your software to check the handoff.
Check your computer and software version
Using a Mac? See Sermoon S1's current Mac software and memory requirements.
The Quick Start Guide V1.1, PDF page 10, lists Windows 10/11 x64 with an i7 seventh generation, NVIDIA 6 GB VRAM and 16 GB RAM as minimum; its recommended configuration is i7 tenth generation, NVIDIA 8 GB and 32 GB RAM. Its Mac recommendation is Apple M1/M2/M3/M4 with 16 GB RAM.
The S1 software Wiki instead gives i5 eighth generation and 8 GB RAM as minimum, with i7 eighth generation, NVIDIA graphics and 16 GB RAM recommended for Windows. It requires Creality Scan 4.1.2.8 or later and lists Mac OS versions separately. We observed desktop download 4.3.2 on October 14. A download version is not proof that either computer configuration will finish your intended project.
Confirm which documented computer configuration applies to the quoted scanner and software version. Send the exact CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM, OS/architecture, ports and intended project size to the seller. Require both capture and the largest reconstruction to finish on that machine. Use the computer checklist to record the result.
There is also a laser-class discrepancy: the current product table labels the seven-parallel-line blue mode Class I, while Quick Start Guide V1.1 labels that mode Class II. Both list Class II for the other blue patterns and Class I for infrared. Obtain the applicable instructions for the delivered unit and mode from Creality. Confirm the laser classification for the delivered unit and mode with Creality.
Accuracy claims do not set your part tolerance
Creality lists blue accuracy up to 0.02 mm and infrared up to 0.075 mm, with volumetric expressions of 0.02 mm + 0.08 mm/m and 0.075 mm + 0.1 mm/m respectively. The guide identifies laboratory conditions and notes temperature and vibration. Your job still needs defined operating conditions, a part-specific test and an uncertainty assessment for any inspection result.
Keep point spacing, local accuracy, length-dependent behavior and your final tolerance separate. A finer setting can increase data volume without recovering a hidden surface. For a dimensional job, agree on reference features, repeat captures, processing settings and acceptance before comparing the delivered result. The accuracy guide provides an arithmetic worksheet and explains its limits.
Dated US price and the full workflow quote
The Creality US store displayed two separately selected options during our checks:
| Named option and observation | Displayed USD | Package scope |
|---|---|---|
| Creality Sermoon S1 3D Scanner base, October 20, 2026 | 2,299 | Base scanner; a Scan Bridge and reconstruction license are separate questions |
| Sermoon S1 + Scan Bridge bundle, October 20, 2026 | 2,149 | The selected details listed one S1 and one Scan Bridge for Sermoon S1 & Raptor Series |
The prices belong to two different named packages. Stock, dispatch, regional warranty, tax, shipping and the complete delivered total remain unconfirmed. The store link can open the base option; select and match the exact bundle name and contents before comparing a quote.
The separate QUICKSURFACE Lite one-year option was USD 540 when checked October 14. A CAD license included in either scanner option remains unconfirmed; the quoted Lite option is separate. The quick guide's base packing list includes the scanner, data/power arrangement, calibration board and markers; it does not list a Scan Bridge. The later selected bundle explicitly adds the named bridge.
Request an itemized quote for the exact scanner revision, compatible host, bridge if required, preparation supplies, reconstruction software edition/term, training, support, shipping and taxes. The ownership and service worksheet keeps unquoted amounts unknown.
Validation plan
- Name the final deliverable and the acceptance rule. Record object envelope, critical feature, actual finish and permission for markers/coating separately.
- Have the seller identify S1, the chosen blue/infrared mode, host, bridge if used, app and firmware. P1, P1S, X1 and RaptorX are separate models.
- Capture the recessed feature from the required angles. Keep the original project and raw cloud. Repeat the capture independently if dimensional repeatability matters.
- Inspect a non-closed mesh before smoothing or hole filling. The desktop guide says Closed generates missing surfaces; a completed-looking wall may therefore be reconstructed rather than observed.
- Compare the processed file with the raw capture at the critical edge. Record which filling, smoothing and simplification controls were used.
- Finish the largest intended project and export on the quoted computer or phone. Open the result in your actual application and check a control dimension.
- Settle any remaining file, host, classification and complete-price question before choosing a package. Leave unresolved items open on the quote.
For the original seven-line laser/NIR model, read the CR-Scan Raptor guide. For an infrared handheld alternative, read the CR-Scan Otter guide. If the requirement is capture and processing on the scanner itself, compare the VEGA workflow; phone capture with an accessory is a different arrangement. Compare the alternatives on the same job; these guides do not rank hardware performance.
