Request an Otter demonstration if you can use a connected workstation and want to evaluate a mixed-object mesh workflow. Compare Raptor when a mechanical feature is central to the job. Compare an all-in-one scanner if keeping the workstation attached is impractical.
Do not buy Otter for traceable inspection on the basis of this guide. We have no controlled measurements or established calibration workflow for your task. A CAD-reference mesh and an inspection report are different deliverables.

Otter is worth investigating when the job is to capture a mix of shapes rather than to buy from a single precision number. Start with your smallest important feature, the largest span and the surface you cannot change. A convincing demonstration needs to handle all three, not just a textured object that is easy to track.
This guide uses official product and store information. We have not tested the hardware. Where our reviewed material does not establish a specification, we leave the answer open rather than borrow a number from a different model.

The official product page was reviewed for our technical record on September 20. The US store listed the standalone Otter at USD 899 on September 30. It also displayed Otter with Scan Bridge at USD 1,006.36 and Otter with a manual turntable at USD 902. Those are different packages, not competing standalone prices.
Use the official download page to obtain the current manual and scanner software. Check that you select CrealityScan, not the CrealityPrint tab. Printer-software compatibility does not establish scanner-software compatibility.
Test the change between object types
A demo using only one favorable specimen cannot settle a mixed-object purchase. Give the seller three tasks and the files you expect to receive.

Do not judge by the rendered color alone. Open the geometry without texture, inspect the recess, and check the result at the scale required by the receiving application. A good-looking color mesh can still be unsuitable for reconstruction or printing.
Ask for recovery, not just a perfect run
Have the operator deliberately lose tracking on a noncritical portion of the demonstration. Ask how the run is recovered and whether restarting, markers or extra views are needed. Record the time to reach an acceptable export, including cleanup. This is a proposed test, not a claim that Otter loses tracking more often than another scanner.
If your job involves people or objects that cannot remain still, include motion in the demo brief. Do not extrapolate from an unmoving tabletop specimen. If preparation is forbidden, do not accept a demonstration on a sprayed substitute.
Check the delivered file
Specify whether you need a visualization mesh, a printable mesh, CAD reference or an editable model. Require units, scale and the receiving application to be agreed in advance. Use the real-file exercise to understand why a mesh can pass topology checks yet still have an unresolved physical scale.
For editable CAD, read the reconstruction guide before assuming the scanner price includes the finished job.
Compare buying with using a service
In the selector, choose Otter and another candidate, then enter written quotes for the same workload. Include software, preparation, training, operator time and support. Leave unquoted items blank. A low device price does not settle a three-year cost comparison.
For a small number of jobs, ask a service provider for the same files and acceptance rule. If the demo cannot produce your critical feature, do not buy yet.
Questions before ordering
Is the bridge included in the standalone price?
The checked store listed separate standalone and bridge packages. Ask the seller to name the exact included accessories. Do not assume a bundle description applies to every option.
Can Otter deliver STEP directly?
We have not established an included editable-CAD workflow. Require a demonstration of the actual deliverable, not just a list of file extensions. Reconstruction may be a separate software and labor step.
Why are some specification fields unknown here?
The reviewed official material did not provide enough normalized information for those fields. Unknown means ask for evidence; it does not mean poor performance or zero capability.
