Original versus Pro

MetroX vs MetroX Pro

The Pro adds laser lines and a different length-dependent accuracy specification. Check your computer and compare the same finished part before paying for the upgrade.

Revopoint specifications, checked 2026-10-20

Maximum laser acquisition rateUp to 800,000 points/sUp to 2,000,000 points/s
Volumetric accuracy claim0.025 mm + 0.05 mm x L(m)0.02 mm + 0.04 mm x L(m)

L is the object length in meters. These are published claims, not our measurements of a finished scan.

Revopoint lists full-field and automatic-turntable modes for both. A higher maximum point rate is not a measurement of the time needed to capture, clean up and export your part. The length-dependent formula describes a different quantity from a single-frame claim or the tolerance of finished CAD.

For a small mounting hole, ask whether its edge survives the actual export. For a longer part, check an agreed span as well. See how to interpret accuracy claims before treating a specification as a pass rule.

Will your computer run the right software?

Recommended chipM2 / M3 Pro / Max / UltraM4 Pro or better

Both list macOS 11.0 or later. For Windows, both list Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit), Intel i7 13th Gen or AMD Ryzen 7 5800, at least 32 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (8 GB). Check a USB 3.0 or faster port. The manual limits dedicated-GPU acceleration to laser-line modes; AMD and Mac GPUs do not support that acceleration.

Both use a computer for capture. A phone display or streaming accessory is not a substitute for the required processing computer. For a Mac, check the actual Revo Metro download and your exact chip, memory and macOS version. The Mac setup guide covers the current download architecture question.

Use the requirements for your model and software build. Older quick-start PDFs can differ from the current manual. Check the processor, memory and graphics as well as the operating system.

Compare the two complete kits

At that check, the Pro package was USD 158 more. This is a dated package difference, not the full cost of changing your setup.

Before choosing, get two itemized quotes for the same destination and job. Include the computer you need, any turntable or marker equipment, preparation supplies, reconstruction software, tax and delivery. Compare what each named package includes. A difference in scanner price is only one line of that total.

Already own a suitable computer? Enter its additional cost as zero in the kit worksheet. Keep software or accessory lines unknown until you have a price; an empty line does not mean it is free.

Run the same-part check

Use this plan with a seller demonstration or equipment you can access. Decide the pass rule before looking at the two results.

  1. Choose one representative part. Name the smallest important feature, the required final file and the edit you need to make. Agree a reference dimension and an acceptable result for your job.
  2. Keep the setup comparable. Record the capture mode, computer, software build, markers, permitted coating and operator. If one setup needs preparation you cannot use, record that difference. The surface guide explains common coverage problems.
  3. Time the whole route separately. Record capture, alignment, cleanup and export. Retain the raw data and failed attempts. More acquired points only help if the required feature reaches the final file.
  4. Open both exports in the same application. Confirm units and the reference span. Inspect the critical feature without relying on texture. For editable CAD, perform the specified change; an STL mesh is not native feature history. Use the scan-to-CAD receiving checks.
  5. Choose from the result and full quote. If only one setup passes, identify what made the difference. If both pass, compare total cost, repeatability of the work and the time you recorded. If neither passes, change the workflow before buying either scanner.

Ask for the raw capture, exported file, software version and any manual repair steps with the demonstration. Open the exported file in your software and try the required task.

The paired specifications and computer requirements were read on October 20, 2026. They are manufacturer documentation, not our measurements of either scanner.

How we work

How we compare scanners

Official manuals, technical sheets and current product pages lead the evidence hierarchy. Missing fields stay visible as questions for the vendor.

  1. Define the object, output and acceptance method.
  2. Record calibration, software, workstation and operator.
  3. Compare the final deliverable under the same protocol.
  4. Keep failed scans and document every manual correction.

Published specifications describe manufacturer claims. A buyer test with your own object remains the final decision step.
